Empowered Women, Empowering Women.

Welcome to The REVIVAL Zine!

My name is Victoria Mongiardo and I am the president of The REVIVAL Zine at UCSB. Launching this online intersectional feminist publication was important to me because I believe in the political, societal, and emotional benefits of the written word. Writing has historically influenced major feminist movements in all three waves of feminism and paved the way for future feminist leaders to make strides towards equality for all.

In what was considered the First Wave of Feminism in the late 1700s to the early 1900s, writers such as Mary Wollstonecraft greatly contributed to society’s views on women and in  A Vindication of the Rights of Women, Wollstonecraft advocates for women’s education and says that by educating women, society as a whole benefits. She provided important groundwork for many generations of feminists to come and now as feminists who are part of the Third Wave of Feminism, it is our responsibility to continue the work of those who were willing to speak up and out against their oppressive societies.

Feminism has come a long way since the 1700’s and we have now expanded from the focus of white, heterosexual women to intersectional feminism which includes the binary, nonbinary, LGBTQ+, and people of color. Intersectional feminism broadens the scale at which we analyze and fight inequalities and a discriminatory society.

My hopes are that The REVIVAL Zine will provide an open platform for people to share their thoughts on intersectional feminism at UCSB. I envision our publication to be full of concepts, stories, poems, diatribes, rants, opinions, informational articles and criticisms of our society. In our publication, we hope to bring a large array of experiences and perspectives and we invite you to read, relate to, and share your voice and opinions.

Sincerely,

Victoria Mongiardo
